2013's Most Anticipated Addendum

It looks like that 2 of my movies this year have already taken a nosedive into next year. Warner Brothers just announced last week that 300: Rise of an Empire is getting pushed back to March. That's probably smart because it's original time slot in August seemed like it would go up against some stiff action competition. And with practically no one returning from the original and it being a prequel, it's probably not going to make a huge impact at the box office. And then I found out that the Mad Max sequel has been scheduled for some time in 2014. This movie already had a shaky date in 2013, so it's no surprise that it's been pushed back. I really didn't have a hard time finding 2 movies that I think will be really, really awesome! It's funny because they're probably the most opposite you could get with the movies they're replacing.

14. The Way Way Back (PG-13)
Starring: Steve Carrell, Toni Collete, Liam James, AnnaSophia Robb
Director: Nat Faxon, Jim Rash
Release Date: July 5

I absolutely love coming of age stories. Especially ones set in the summer (The Sandlot, Dazed and Confused, Superbad). On top of that you have a great cast - Carrell playing against type (when has he ever been the jerk?), Toni Collete, Sam Rockwell (still waiting for his Oscar), Maya Rudolph, Allison Janney, Rob Corddry, Nat Faxon and Jim Rash. AND on top of all that greatness you have Jim Rash and Nat Faxon writing and directing - the duo behind the wonderful The Descendants. And Jim Rash is probably the best part of Community as the goofy, dalmatian- and Jeff Winger-obsessed dean of Greendale Community College. Plus the trailer just looks downright heartwarming and funny and really genuine. I know this is going to be great - it's got a lot of buzz from the festivals and I cannot wait to see this soon!

24. The Bling Ring (R)
Starring: Emma Watson, Israel Broussard, Katie Chang
Director: Sofia Coppola
Release Date: June 14

Emma Watson is quickly becoming more than just an iconic Harry Potter character. With Perks of Being a Wallflower, she showed how awesome of an actor she can be. And she's back with Sofia Coppola's new movie - The Bling Ring. Based on the true story of The Bling Ring - a group of kids who burglarized a lot of celebrities' houses in 2008 and 2009. Emma Watson plays Nicki (her real name is Alexis Neiers), the girl who would go on to star in her own reality show on E! called Pretty Wild (which was filmed during her arrest and chronicled what followed). I'm on the fence about Sofia Coppola - I really liked Marie Antoinette and The Virgin Suicides, but thought Lost in Translation, her most celebrated work, was hollow and disappointing. But the trailer looks fun and I love how we're getting two movies this summer about American decadence and celebrity culture (The Great Gatsby). I'm hoping that the movie is as fun as this trailer because that would make me happy.
